Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

By |Last Updated: February 9, 2024|

Is there a theme? Is there a dress code?

The theme of the wedding is “Tropical Paradise.” Unico is situated on the Caribbean Sea, which will connect us to the beautiful island of Martinique, Johanna’s family heritage. This bouquet of tropical flowers inspires our wedding colors, but feel free to interpret “Tropical Paradise” as you see fit!

The dress code for our wedding is semi-formal/cocktail attire. Think cocktail dresses or a suit and tie or a blazer.

Do I need my passport?

YES. We have a resource available here.

What will the weather be like this time of year?

Our wedding will be held during the dry season, so you can expect warm, humid weather with possible rainfall. Here’s the forecast for the next week. (Last updated 2/8/24).

What should I pack?

Important: Please pack photocopies of your passport. Consider packing these in a different bag from your passport.

Clothing: For the day time, we recommend packing shorts, skirts, dresses, T-shirts, bathing suits, sandals and flip flops, sunglasses, and hats.

For the evening, we recommend packing slacks, collar shirts, skirts and dresses  Please remember to bring a light jacket or  shawl. Evenings can be chilly and windy, and restaurants may also be cold.

Most importantly don’t forget your dancing shoes!

What is the easiest way to get to and from your wedding venue(s)?

All events will be taking place on the Unico Resort property, just a breeze short walk away from your room!

What about dinner reservations?

We recommend you work with your personal concierge upon arrival to make dinner reservations throughout your stay, as the resort is fully booked. While there are food options that don’t require reservations, this will allow for you to experience all of the 5-star dining. Here’s a list of all of the restaurants: https://www.unicohotelrivieramaya.com/en/eat-drink/restaurants/

What about other activities and excursions?

We’re excited to see you, but also understand that you want to take full advantage of all the resort has to offer. Whether that’s booking an excursion or one of the many activities Unico has planned. A full list of the resort’s daily itinerary can be found on the Unico app or provided by your personal concierge once you arrive.

Any activities at the resort we should be aware of?

Great question! On Monday you will be able to have your straw hats customized. Plan to drop them off before 10 am before all the slots fill up. Below are our hats from our last trip to the resort. The resort is also planning a couple of Superbowl parties and things for Valentine’s Day.

What about Playa del Carmen?

We know some guests are headed to or staying in Playa del Carmen. Playa del Carmen is one of our favorite quick-getaway spots. Here are some of our recommendations. We recommend you stay in the area around 5th Avenue. There are tons of restaurants, shopping, beach and nightlife. It’s safe and easy to navigate even for non-Spanish speakers. A couple of restaurants we love that don’t miss are La Cueva del Chango and El Fogon.
